[edit] 1 Description of abstract element: Type

A second property with the same name as this property has been declared in the dcterms: namespace (http://purl.org/dc/terms/). See the Introduction to the document "DCMI Metadata Terms" (http://dublincore.org/documents/dcmi-terms/) for an explanation. Recommended best practice is to use a controlled vocabulary such as the DCMI Type Vocabulary [1]. To describe the file format, physical medium, or dimensions of the resource, use the Format element. The nature or genre of the resource.

2 Discussion of type [add to discussion, edit discussion]

OAS: The type vocabulary in our understanding describes the variety of rich media and will probably play an important role in future audiovisual repositories as they wil be enriched by say "Image" or "Text". With regard to the types we basically see three of them in an academic setting: "Moving image" and "Sound" for the actual recordings and "Event" for a collection of items (e.g. lecture, conference). We chose "Event" over "Collection" as we could relate these to the EDNA Events metadata application profile [2] (from Australia) with some typical academic event types.
